1887 (25th May) Born in Pietrelcina (Benevento).
1903 (6th January) Goes to Morcone (Benevento) to become a Capuchin novice.
(22th January) Begins his probationary novitiate and becomes Fra Pio da Pietrelcina.
1904 (22th January) Takes his simple vows.
(25th January) Moves to Sant'Elia a Pianisi (Campobasso) to begin his rethoric course.
1907 (27th January) Takes his solemn vows.
(end of October) At Serracapriola (Foggia) begins studying theology.
1908 (end of November) At Montefusco (Avellino) continues his theological studies.
(19th December) Takes Minor orders in Benevento.
(21th December) Appointed Subdeacon in Benevento.
1909 Pietrelcina - struck by illness for the first months of the year.
(18th July) Ordained as Deacon in the convent church of Morcone.
1910 (10th August) Ordained as a priest in the canonical chapel of Benevento cathedral.
(14th August) Conducts his first Mass at Pietrelcina; this year the first signs of Stigmata appear (see Collected letters I, 44).
1911 (end of October) Sent to Venafro, but almost always confined to bed by illness. Extraordinary things happen.
(7th December) Returns to Pietrelcina.
1915 (25th February) Because of his illness, he is granted permission to continue his absence from the convent, though retaining his Capuchin habit.
(6th November) Called up to the Army.
(6th December) Assigned to the 10th Medical Company in Naples.
1916 (17th February) Is at the convent of Sant'Anna in Foggia.
(4th September) Is at San Giovanni Rotondo.
(18th December) Returns to the Army in Naples. Allowed several periods of leave until 16th March 1918, when he is dispensed from service on the grounds of double broncho-alveolitis.
1918 (5th-7th August) Transverberation.
(20th September) Stigmatization.
1919 (15th-16th May) Padre Pio is examined by Luigi Romanelli, the first doctor to see him after his Stigmatization.
(26th July) Medical report by Amico Bignami.
(9th October) Medical examination by Giorgio Festa.
1922 (2th June) The first inquest measures are taken by the Holy Office of the Vatican.
1923 (31th May) Following an inquest, the Holy Office decrees that there is nothing "supernatural in the events attributed to Padre Pio".
(17th June) Padre Pio is ordered to celebrate Mass in the chapel inside the convent with no members of the public present, and not to reply personally or through others to letters addressed to him.
(26th June) Following a general outcry, Padre Pio returns to church and celebrates Mass.
(8th August) Padre Pio hears of the order (dated 30th July) for his transfer to Ancona, where he is to await further measures.
(17th August) More popular protest causes the transfer to be rescinded.
1929 (3th January) Padre Pio's mother dies in San Giovanni Rotondo.
1931 (23th May) Padre Pio is banned from the practice of his ministry, with the exception of Mass, which he may celebrate in private in the friary chapel.

1933

(16th July) Padre Pio says Mass in church.
1934 (25th March) Padre Pio resumes the hearing of men's confessions.
(12th May) He resumes hearing women's confessions.
1946 (7th October) Padre Pio's father dies in San Giovanni Rotondo.
1947 (19th May) Work begins to clear the site for the construction of the "Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza" - Home for the Relief of Suffering.
1955 (31th January) Ceremony of the initial escavation for the new church under construction.
1956 (5th May) Inauguration of the "Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza".
1959 (1th July) Consecration of the new church.
1965 (17th January) Padre Pio is authorized to continue saying Mass in Latin.
1966 (21th November) Padre Pio is authorized to celebrate Mass in public and to do so seated.
1968 (29th March) As Padre Pio can no longer use his legs, because of weakness he begins to use a wheelchair.
(22th September) At 5.00 a.m. he gives his last Mass; at 6.00 p.m. his last blessing of the congregation in church.
(23th September) At 2.30 a.m., having received the last sacraments, Padre Pio dies peacefully with the Holy Rosary in his hands and "Jesus!… Mary!" on his lips.
1969 (4th November) The procedure is started for the Cause for his Beatification and Canonization.
1973 (16th January) Mons. Valentino Vailati, Archbishop of Manfredonia, delivers to the Holy Congregation for the Causes of Saints the documentation required in order to obtain authorization to present the Cause for Beatification.
1980 (3th March) The Archbishop provides the Congregation with further documentation deemed necessary for the authorization.
1983 (20th March) Official opening of the Cognition Process on the life and virtues of the Servant of God, Padre Pio da Pietralcina.
1987 (23th March) Pastoral visit to San Giovanni Rotondo by Pope John Paul II, who kneels and prays at Padre Pio's tomb.
1990 (21th January) Conclusion of the Diocesan Cognition Process on the life and virtues of the Servant of God. All the documentation, made up of 104 volumes, is handed over to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints.
1991 (7th December) The Congregation issues a de validate decree on the Cognition Process. Padre Cristoforo Bove of the Friars Minor Conventual is appointed official supervisor for the drafting of the Positio super virtutibus.
1995 (January - November 1995) With the collaboration of three able scholars, Padre Gerardo Di Flumeri prepares the Positio; the 104 volumes of the Diocesan process are edited down to 4 volumes in 6 tomes, with a total of about 7,000 pages.
1996 (April) Padre Gerardo is in Salerno to gather documentation on the case of a prodigious recovery attributed to the intercession of Padre Pio. On November 1st-6th 1995 at Salerno hospital, Signora Consiglia De Martino recovered from a traumatic rupture of the thoracic duct in the neck.
(5th November) Postulator-General Padre Paolino Rossi delivers the 6 tomes of the Positio to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints.
(19th December) The 6 tomes of the Positio are given to the Theological Council for an opinion on the heroism of Padre Pio's virtues.
1997 (13th June) The 9 theological councilors meet in special congress and issue a unanimous pronouncement to accord heroic status to Padre Pio's virtues.
(21th October) The Commission of Cardinals expresses its unanimous approval of the heroism of the venerated Father's virtues.
(18th December) In the Vatican Concistorum, in the presence of Pope John Paul II, reading is given of the decree on the heroism of the virtues of Padre Pio, who thus acquires the title of "Venerable".
1998 (January) The Congregation for the Causes of Saints begins its examination super miro, that is to say of Signora Consiglia De Martino's prodigious recovery.
(30th April) The Medical Council of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints examines Signora Consiglia De Martino's recovery from "traumatic rupture of the thoracic duct in the neck" on 3rd November 1995, unanimously (all 5 members) judging it to be "scientifically inexplicable".
(22th June) The Theological Commission, composed of the Promoter-General of the Faith and 6 theological councilors, examines the same remarkable event. After an exhaustive discussion the Commission expresses a clear affirmative (7 out of 7) declaring it a third-degree miracle - quoad modum.
(20th October) Under the Most Excellent Mons. Andrea M. Erba, Bishop of Velletri-Segni, there is a meeting of the Most Eminent Cardinals and Bishops of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints for an examination of the miracle attributed to the intercession of Padre Pio. Their opinion is in favor.
(21th December) In the Vatican Concistorum, in the presence of Pope John Paul II, a Decree is promulgated on the miracle attributed to the intercession of Padre Pio. On the same day, Sunday 2nd May 1999 is appointed as the date for the Beatification of the Venerable Servant of God.
1999 (Sunday 2th May) In St. Peter's square, to the exultation of millions of the faithful, His Holiness Pope John Paul II proclaims Blessed the Venerable Servant of God Padre Pio da Pietrelcina.
2000 ( 20thJanuary) while he is at school 7-year-old Matteo Pio Coltella becomes ill. That evening he is admitted to Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza, where “Hyper-acute septicaemic Meningitis with insufficient multi-organ functioning” is diagnosed. Later that evening he is taken to intensive care.
(21thJanuary) young Matteo is put into incubation with artificial respiration. His clinical condition is not good. The prognosis is unfavourable. His mother prays and asks for prayers. At about 11 pm, contrary to any medical expectation, the boy begins to improve.
(31thJanuary) his recovery is quick.
(6th February) Matteo Pio Colella is discharged, completely recovered.
(11th June) Canon Proceedings are started for documentation and evidence concerning Matteo Pio Colella’s recovery, at the Archdiocese Ecclesiastic Court of Manfredonia – Vieste.
2001 (17th October) Canon Proceedings end.
(23th October) Father Gerardo of Flumeri delivers the documentation to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints.
(22th November) the Medical Council of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, unanimously, recognises that recovery is “quick, complete, long lasting, without after effects and scientifically inexplicable”.
(11th December) the Congress of Theological Councillors of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints is held that, unanimously, evaluates his recovery as “a third degree miracle”.
(18th December) the Ordinary Session of Cardinals and Bishops of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints is held, which confirms the Theologians’ decision.
(20th December) in the Sala del Concistoro, at the Vatican City, in the presence of the Holy Father John Paul II, a decree concerning this miracle is promulgated, attributed to the intercession of Blessed Padre Pio.
2002 (26th February) during an ordinary consistory, the date Sunday 16th June 2002 is established for his canonization as Blessed.
(16thJune) in St. Peter’s Square, the Supreme Pontiff John Paul II proclaims Holy Blessed Padre Pio of Pietralcina a Saint, and establishes liturgical memory as “obligatory”, on 23rd September, “the day of his birth in heaven”.
